ESTATE DA MAMMA ITALIANA…SUMMER AS ITALIAN “MAMMA” …

I miei colleghi d’oltralpe stentano a crederci…

estateAnyone who has children in Italy knows how hard it is to face the organization of the summer in this beautiful country where from 30th June  you will finde the Middle Ages … Everything about childhood closes , disappears , and voila , suddenly it seems that there is more work, society and education.

The lucky people rely on grandparents who bring their children on holiday for weeks or months , but this is a social solution that is disappearing .

For the most part there are centers or summer camps in desolate gyms, swimming pools or structures more or less suitable for children , in which all the vaunted pedagogy of the remaining nine months shall be set aside and away from chaos and screams that often makes you forget everything you have learned before, or babysitter, flips and somersaults  for parents !

If you talk to italian school administrators they will answer ‘ children have the right to rest ‘ and then I would let them spend at least one day in these places , so they can evaluate themselves …

We then talk about the first 15-20 days of September ? My foreign colleagues find it hard to believe …

In any case, having long since learned to always see the positive in every situation, this summer I was able to arrange with some help from friends and relatives for job , many evenings on the pc, and for the remaining time I lived a summer as Italian mother : with my son.

Sun, heat , games , laughter, a bit of the sea , so much boring, so much effort, but mostly joy.

Talking with a three year old child is the best way to discover new things and look at the world from a different perspective then, think about it, is the right one …

You can spend an hour to water three jars of flowers and a whole afternoon to wash the salad … Chase our cat in the woods for a morning and sleep on the floor because it’s too hot …

And almost makes you think they did it on purpose to create three month vacuum , to live these moments that do not exist in the “superorganized” countries and eventually the anger and disappointment have flown and remains the memory of better days …
