THE WELLCOME COLLECTION READING ROOM.

Thursday with The Sleepy Hamlet.

Looking for places where literature and design are combined, Katia and I, asked ourselves about environments in which the ideal conditions were created to make the man feel at the center, to encourage him to relax, unplug and read. Do you attend such a place?

Library would immediately come to mind, but is this the real feeling when entering a city library? We decided not to talk about monumental spaces, which, although magnificent, often transmit austerity, framed by works of art of great value, are more similar to galleries and not accessible and usable to the simple reader, if not for purposes of tourist visit.

The main question we asked ourselves: should the book be the only prerogative of the library, with its exhibition and cataloging? Or should the reading be combined with an inviting, welcoming, attractive space that welcomes the user to one of the activities best suited to him?

The Wellcome Collection reading room, London, gave us great answers: designed by AOC Architecture, it offers an extraordinarily hospitable location to the collections of scientific books of the property, but also to the public who frequents it, offering convivial living rooms in pastel colors, soft lighting on reading corners, discrete areas that communicate with art exhibitions or scientific representations. All framed by a scenic staircase with vintage tapestries and maxi cushions that recall cellular shapes under a microscope. The peculiarity of the AOC study is, in fact, going down in detail and recalling the leitmotif of the Wellcome Collection project: medicine and science.
